DPIIT Recognition
Official government recognition of a business as a 'startup' under the Startup India initiative, granted largely through self-certification on eligibility criteria like age, turnover, and innovation.
DPIIT (Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade) recognition is a status a private limited company, LLP, or registered partnership can apply for through the Startup India portal, based on meeting criteria around incorporation age, turnover ceiling, and working on innovation or a scalable business model rather than simply continuing an existing business under a new entity.
Recognition itself brings benefits like self-certification under certain labour and environment laws and easier IPR filing support, but it's a separate step from the Section 80-IAC tax holiday, which requires its own additional application and approval even after DPIIT recognition is granted.
